Why dry fire works

Repetition you can actually afford

Dry fire is repetition without the cost of ammunition, the noise or the recoil. That is what makes it the one of the most practical way to build the fundamentals: you can put hundreds of careful repetitions into your grip, stance, sight alignment and trigger control, with your full attention on technique rather than on the shot.

The long-standing problem with dry fire is feedback. With no shot and no target to read, it is easy to rehearse a mistake and call it practice. The Mantis TitanX answers that by putting a laser and a motion based shot-analysis system into an inert training pistol.

This course teaches you to use that feedback deliberately, and to run a safe, structured practice routine of your own afterwards.

No live ammunition is used anywhere in this course.

Where this fits

Practise indoors, perform at the range

Dry-fire training needs no range and no live ammunition, and it pairs directly with our live-fire courses.

1

Intro To: Dry-Fire

Learn the fundamentals of dry fire and build safe, consistent shooting habits, with an instructor and the TitanX’s feedback guiding every repetition.

2

Start indoors

Practise the habits you learned in class at home, on your own schedule, with the same safety routine every session and no live ammunition in the room.

3

Take it to the range

Carry the same habits into live fire, adding recoil management and noise to the skills you’ve already built.

This course pairs naturally with Intro To: Pistol, our live-fire handgun course.

What the system gives you feedback on

The TitanX scores every shot and replays the movement of the gun through it. These are the skills that feedback is built to develop.

What to expect

Quiet, focused repetition

The purpose of this dry-fire course is to introduce shooters to the benefits of dry-fire training, the Mantis TitanX platform and red-dot sights. No live ammunition is used, and there is no recoil or muzzle report to manage, so the whole session is spent focused on technique and repetition.

Expect to repeat each fundamental many times, with an instructor watching and the platform scoring every shot. The feedback is immediate, which is what makes the corrections stick.

Ammunition: Live ammunition is not used in this course, and none is needed.

Equipment: None needed, but students may download the Mantis Laser Academy app and use their phone for data capture if retention is required.

Holster work: Holster work is not included in the Intro To: courses.

What to bring

Come ready to repeat

Bring a notepad and pen if you like to take notes. Writing down feedback from the instructor and the app and what you changed is how one good repetition becomes a habit.

Dress comfortably, in clothing you can stand and move in. This course is indoors, no PPE is required as there is no live fire. Do not bring personal firearms or ammunition to class.

Mantis TitanX

The platform

What the TitanX brings to dry practice

The TitanX is a smart laser training pistol. It is an inert pistol built with the form factor and grip angle of a Glock 17, 19 or 45, a resetting trigger with a realistic weight and break, and a red laser that fires the instant the trigger breaks. Our training platform is equipped with a red-dot sight for enhanced target acquisition and focus.

Because the trigger resets on its own, you are not racking the slide between repetitions: you can shoot string after string exactly as you would with a live pistol, and the laser shows you instantly where each shot placed on the target.

The MantisX analysis built into the pistol reports on the movement of the gun through the shot, including the path the muzzle takes to deliver it. Connected to the app, it gives you a score, coaching and a replayable trace of the muzzle path for every shot, across a library of drills and courses that build on each other.

Questions people ask

Intro To: Dry-Fire questions

Is dry-fire practice safe with a real firearm?

Yes. Dry-fire practice with a real firearm is safe when the rules are strictly followed without exception: no live ammunition in the room, ACTS & PROVE completed. In this course you practise on an inert training pistol, which removes the possibility of a live round being present at all.

What is the difference between dry fire and live fire?

Dry fire builds the fundamentals through repetition, without recoil, report or the cost of ammunition. Live fire adds recoil management and muzzle blast. Both matter, and the two courses are designed to be used together.

How does the laser feedback work?

The pistol emits a laser the moment the trigger breaks, so you see exactly where each shot landed. The built-in MantisX system also records how the gun moved through the shot, so you can replay the trace and see what to change.

Do I need a firearms license?

No. The Mantix TitanX is an inert training pistol, not a firearm.

Do I need my own handgun?

No. This course uses the Mantix TitanX system.

How many students per instructor?

Public courses are limited to 2 students per session.

Can I book this privately?
